Dendrobium Candy Stripe

14/12/2013

Dendrobium Candy Stripe is an epiphytic growing, multiple generation orchid hybrid, a crossing between the hybrids Dendrobium Dianne McFarlane (seed parent) and Dendrobium Margaret Joan Fell (pollen parent). The beautiful, purple coloured Dendrobium orchid with its “candy stripes” has been developed and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in 1979 by K.J.McFarlane. The non-fragrant flowers get a size of about 4-5 cm in diameter and are long-lasting. Like the most Dendrobium hybrids Dendrobium Candy Stripe is considered as an easy-to-grow orchid and suitable for orchid beginners.

The showy, tropical orchid hybrid requires a warm to hot, humid climate, full sun or bright light and should be fertilized regularly. During growth season plants should be kept humid, but not wet, whilst during dormancy Dendrobium orchids prefer it much drier until new growth appears in spring.
