Dendrobium Lanna Scent
26/11/2012
Dendrobium Lanna Scent is an epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing between Dendrobium Hiroshi Tokunaga (seed parent) and Dendrobium scabrilingue (pollen parent).
The Dendrobium orchid hybrid, with its highly fragrant flowers, has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by the Unversity of Chiang Mai, North Thailand in the year 2007. The name Lanna refers to the former kingdom of Lanna, which was founded by King Mengrai (1239-1311) in the 13. century. We found that beautiful and highly fragrant orchid at an orchid exhibition in our home city Chiang Mai by just following our noses. There was a strong scent, reminescent of an expensive French perfume, in the air and we`ve been curious, where this pleasant fragrance was comming from. We ended up at a few Dendrobium Lanna Scent orchids, which has been the scource. Flowers get a size of about 5-6 cm. Flowering period: Spring. As this Dendrobium Lanna Scent orchids has been brought for an orchid competition, we didn`t ask for the price and decided to have a look at our local plant market, Talad Kamthieng. Unfortunatly we couldn`t find this heavenly, perfumy orchid hybrid during the last 3 years. Dendrobium Lanna Scent requires a warm to hot, humid climate and a partial-shady to sunny location.
Watering should be restricted during the winter rest.
