Miniature Orchid Trias nummularia

15/11/2012

Trias nummularia Aver. & Averyanova 2006 is an epiphytic growing miniature orchid species, native to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.

Flowers of this cute miniature orchid get a length of about 1,5 cm. Flowering period: Winter - Spring. As we found the beautiful miniature orchid Trias nummularia in our friends and supporters shop Phrao Orchids at Talad Kamthieng (Kamthieng market) in Chiang Mai, North Thailand, it was labeled as Trias cambodiana Christenson 2003, but this name isn`t accepted by the science of botany. The genus Trias has been established by the famous British botanist Sir John Lindley in the year 1830 and is closely related to Bulbophyllum orchids. Trias orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
