14/09/2010

Calanthe sylvatica (Thouars) Lindl. 1833 is a terrestrial growing orchid species, widely spread through Africa, India, South China and South East Asia. The list of synonyms for this beautiful orchid seems endless, we found the orchid labeled as Calanthe mascua, sometimes also written Calanthe masuca. Flowers get a size of about 3-5 cm. Flowering season: Spring - Summer. Calanthe sylvatica orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical ground orchid requires cool to warm temperatures and a location shade. Whilst potting Calanthe sylvatica orchids, pseudobulbs should be dug in the potting medium just halfway through.
