Coelogyne tenasserimensis Seidenf. Orchid

15/02/2010

The small flowered Coelogyne tenasserimensis Seidenf. 1975 is an epiphytic growing orchid, native to Thailand and Myanmar (formerly Burma).

The beautiful yellow flower with its outstanding lip gets a size of just 1,5 - 2 cm. Flowering period: February. Coelogyne tenasserimensis orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid species requires warm - hot temperatures and a location in partial shade. Plants should be kept moist, but not wet. Waterings should be restricted during the winter rest. We´ve been wondering, that this orchid beauty seems to be quite unknown and there is not much information around. Fortunatly we could identify the plant with the help of an orchid book, called “The wild orchids of Thailand” written by Nantiya Vaddhanaphuti.
