Paphiopedilum moquetteanum

Even if some sources claim, the beautiful lady slipper orchid Paphiopedilum moquetteanum (J.J. Sm.) Fowlie 1980 got its own species status, the accepted botanical name is Paphiopedilum glaucophyllum var. moquetteanum J.J. Sm. The name Paphiopedilum moquetteanum seems to be accepted as a synonym. The terrestrial and lithophytic growing orchid has been found in Java, Indonesia and has been named in honour to the Indonesian Orchid enthusiast and plantation manager M. Moquette. The inflorescence get a length up to 30 - 40 cm and carry up to 20 flowers, but never more than 2 flowers open at the same time. Paphiopedilum moquetteanum flowers reach a size up to 10 - 12 cm. Flowering period: Spring - Summer.
