Pineapple Orchid (Robiquetia cerina)

No wonder, that the very strange looking flowers of the Robiquetia cerina (Rchb. f.) Garay 1972 orchid species, brought the plant the name pineapple orchid. Especially the yellow color form looks realy like a pineapple. Robiquetia cerina (Rchb. f.) Garay 1972 is epiphytic growing and native to the Philippines. The orchid genus Robiquetia has been established by the French Botanist Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré in the year 1829 and named in honour to the French chemist Pierre-Jean Robiquet (1780 – 1840). The small flowers open in succession from the top to the bottom. Pineapple Orchid (Robiquetia cerina) flowers, which open not much, get a size of about 0,8 cm.
