Plectrelminthus caudatus (Lindl.) Summerh. 1949 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, native to West Africa, where it`s widely spread from Guinea eastwards to Congo.

The genus Plectrelminthus Raf. 1836, with consists of just one species, Plectrelminthus caudatus, belongs to the tribe Vandeae Lindl. 1826, subtribe Aerangidinae Summerh. 1966 and is related to Vanda, Phalaenopsis and Angraecum orchids. Flowers of Plectrelminthus caudatus get a size of about 7 - 8 cm and are highly fragrant. The African orchid is considered as an easy to care plant and is best cultivated in hanging baskets. The plant requires intermediate - warm, humid climate, bright light (full sun - partial shade)
and a good air movement.

Roots of the orchid should never be cut, as this may stop the orchid to bloom for the next 2-5 years.
Flowering period: late Winter - Spring.
Plectrelminthus caudatus orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
