Dendrochilum wenzelii Ames 1915

Dendrochilum wenzelii Ames 1915 is an epiphytic growing orchid species,
native to the Philippines.


The arching inflorescences carry up to about 30 small orange colored flowers. Single flowers get a size of about 1 cm and are fragrant. Flowering period: late Winter - Spring. Dendrochilum wenzelii orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires a cool to warm, humid climate with intermediate to bright light. Dendrochilum wenzelii is considered as an easy to grow orchid and is cold-resistant to temperatures of about 5°C. The potting medium should dry out between watering. During the winter rest water and fertilizer should be restricted. There is also a yellow colored Dendrochilum wenzelii variant around.
