03/02/2010

The cute, but small sized Vanda coerulescens Griff. 1851 is an epiphytic growing orchid species endemic to India (Assam), Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, China (Yunnan) and the Himalayas.

The beautiful and long-lasting flowers reach a size of about 3 cm and have a pleasant fragrant, which is reminiscent of grapes. Inflorescences reach lengths up to about 60 cm and carry up to 15 flowers or even more. Flowering period: February - April. Vanda coerulescens orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires cool – warm temperatures and full sun or bright light.
