The Seidenfadenia mitrata (Rchb.f.) Garay 1972 orchid species has first been described by the German botanist Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach
as Aerides mitrata Rchb.f 1864.
In the year 1972 the highly fragrant orchid has been renamed in honour to the famous orchidologist Dr. Gunnar Seidenfaden as Seidenfadenia mitrata. In common parlance this orchid beauty is called “The Bishop Mitre Seidenfadenia” and in Thailand “Ueang Nuat Phram” or “Ueang Phom Phi Phrai”. The epiphytic growing Seidenfadenia mitrata is native to Thailand and Myanmar (formerly Burma). The sweet scented flowers get a size of about 1,5 cm.
Flowering period: March - May.
Seidenfadenia mitrata (Aerides mitrata) orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival)
