Phaius montanus Schltr. 1912 is a large sized, terrestrial orchid species, native to the island of New Guinea, located in the South-West Pacific Ocean, which belongs to the states Indonesia
and Papua New Guinea.



Phaius montanus orchids can reach hights of more than 1,50 meter and are not just well-liked for their stunning, red flowers, but also for their attractive foliage. As most terrestrial orchids from the Phaius genus, Phaius montanus requires a shady and humid habitat and warm to hot temperatures. The long-lasting flowers get a width of about 10 cm. Flowering period: Spring - Summer. The terrestrial orchid Phaius montanus is protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
