Thai Miniature Orchid Bulbophyllum sukhakulii

15/12/2012

Bulbophyllum sukhakulii Seidenf. 1995 is an epiphytic growing Thai miniature orchid species, found in West Thailand.

Danish botanist and diplomat Gunnar Seidenfaden (1908-2001) named the miniature orchid in honour to the Thai orchid breeder and collector Prasong Sukhakul. Single Bulbophyllum sukhakulii flowers get a size of about 1 cm and are born on arching or hanging 5 - 8 cm long inflorescences. The small, non-fragrant flowers last for 4 - 7 days. Flowering period: December. The Thai miniature orchid requires a warm - hot, humid climate, a half-shady location and a good air movement to avoid fungal infections. Plants should be kept humid, but not soggy.
