Holmskioldia sanguinea Retz. 1791, commonly called Cup and Saucer Plant, Chinese Hat Plant, Parasol Flower or Mandarins Hat, is a climbing shrub, native to the Himalaya lowlands.

The Cup and Saucer Plant (Holmskioldia sanguinea) has been described by the Swedish chemist, botanist and entomologist Anders Jahan Retzius (1742 - 1821) and he named the Holmskioldia genus in honour to the Danish botanist Johan Theodor Holmskjold (1731 – 1793). The perennial, tropical plant reach a height up to about 3 meters or more and is much loved by hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. The cup and saucer plant requires full sun to partial shade and is available with red, orange or bright yellow flowers. Chinese Hat Plants should be pruned regularly to keep them in shape and form. The cute flowers get a size of about 2 cm in diameter. Flowering period: late Spring - Autumn. The evergreen Holmskioldia sanguinea plants are also adapted for hedges.
