The name water snowflake for the beautiful Nymphoides indika (L.) Kuntze hits the nail right on the head. The flowers of the Nymphoides indika are really looking like snowflakes on the water. The aquatic plant, which is not related to water lilies (Nymphaea), even if the leaves look quite similar,
is endemic to Middle- and South America. Nowadays the Nymphoides indika is also widely spread all over Asia. In Nicaragua the plant is used as a natural medicine against stomach upset.
