Liparis gibbosa Finet 1908, commonly called Bunny Orchid or Rabbit Orchid, is a small sized epiphytic or lithophytic growing orchid species, native from India through South-East Asia until Australia.

The funny name Bunny orchid is derived from the upright sepals, reminescent of rabbit or bunny ears. The very small flowers of Liparis gibbosa get a size of just about 0,5 cm and are best viewed with a magnifying glass or a macro lens. Flowering period: Summer - Autumn. As we found the bunny orchid at an orchid exhibition in our hometown Chiang Mai, North Thailand, we tried to take a picture of the flower. Finally we had to come back 3 times to achieve a halfway decent, sharp image. Liparis gibbosa orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires a warm to hot, humid climate. To induce blooming, watering should be restricted
during the winter rest.
