The Cymbidium orchid genus contains about 50 orchid species native to Asia and Australia. The genus Cymbidium has been etablished in 1799 by Olof Peter Swartz. Cymbidium orchids are epiphytic or terrestrial growing and widely used for hybridisation. The abbreviation in horticultural trade is: Cym.
