Bulbophyllum Tee Strawberry Cheese Cake

04/11/2012

Bulbophyllum Tee Strawberry Cheese Cake is an epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing between Bulbophyllum Daisy Chain (seed parent) and Bulbophyllum mastersianum (pollen parent).

The orchid hybrid with its funny name has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 2009 by Y.Punpreuk, a Thai orchid breeder. Flowers get a size up to about 5 cm. Flowering period: Spring – Summer. Bulbophyllum Tee Strawberry Cheese Cake requires a warm to hot humid climate, a shady location and a good air movement to avoid fungal infection. As we found this orchid hybrid at an orchid exhibition in honour to the 80. birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, we`ve been amazed about the proliferated selection of Bulbophyllum hybrids. It seems like, this mostly strange and exotic looking orchids
are quite in vogue nowadays.
