07/09/2012

Paphiopedilum Coro Oro is a lady slipper orchid hybrid, a crossing between the hybrids Paphiopedilum Donna Hanes (seed parent) and Paphiopedilum Raukituri Gold (pollen parent).

Paphiopedilum Coro Oro has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 2006 by Woodstream Orchids, an orchid nursery located in Huntingtown, in Maryland’s beautiful Calvert County. The breeder of this beautiful lady slipper orchid hybrid was Barry Fraser from Papa Aroha Orchids in Coromandel, New Zealand, a world-class hybridizer and grower, specialized on Paphiopedilum orchids. Papa Aroha Orchids and Woodstream Orchids entered a joint venture in the year 2002. Result of that partnership are lots of unique lady slipper orchid hybrids. Barry Fraser closed Papa Aroha Orchids and retired in 2005. Flowers of the terrestrially growing lady slipper orchid hybrid Paphiopedilum Coro Oro reach a size
of about 12 - 16 cm.
