Paphiopedilum Vanguard is a primary lady slipper orchid hybrid, a crossing between the Paph. species orchids Paphiopedilum glaucophyllum (seed parent) and Paphiopedilum rothschildianum (pollen parent).

Paphiopedilum Vanguard has been developed and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by Pitt in the year 1921. The multi-flowered inflorescences of the terrestrially growing lady slipper orchid hybrid carry up to about 3 flowers, which get a length of about 5 cm. Paphiopedilum Vanguard requires a warm to hot, humid climate and is best cultivated in a shaddy environment to get deeper flower colors.
