Since centuries orchid enthusiasts hunt for the black orchid and orchid nurserys around the world try to breed a black orchid hybrid. As far as we know, there is no real black orchid found or created until today.

Vandachostylis Colmarie Black Beauty is a very dark violet or maroon coloured, epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing from the hybrid Vandachostylis Sri-Siam (seed parent) and the species orchid Rhynchostylis gigantea (pollen parent) created by Kultana Orchids, Bangkok, Thailand. The “black orchid” has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in 1997 by C.Neuconhas. To keep the imagination of a black orchid alive, we had to shoot the picture of the orchid with artificial lighting and had to avoid any lighting from the backside. At the second image below, You`ll see how the Vandachostylis Colmarie Black Beauty looks in full sunlight. Flowers of Vandachostylis Colmarie Black Beauty are highly fragrant and get a size of about 4 cm. The tropical orchid hybrid is considered as easy to care, the plant requires a warm to hot, humid climate and bright light. If the orchid didn`t get enough light, especially during the winter rest, it will not bloom. Flowering period: April - June. The orchid is often labeled as a Rhynchovanda, which is just accepted as a synonym for the nothogenus Vandachostylis, a crossing between Vanda orchids and Rhynchostylis orchids.
