Spathodea campanulata P. Beauv. 1805, commonly called African Tulip Tree, Flame of The Forest, Fountain Tree or Firebell, is a tropical, flowering tree, native to tropical Africa.The tropical tree has been primarily described by the French naturalist Palisot de Beauvois (1752-1820). The African Tulip Tree with its spectacular bright orange flowers can reach heigths up to about 30 meters and is widley spread throughout tropical countries worldwide. Flowers, leaves and bark are used in natural medicine against skin diseases. Flowering period: Spring. The African Tulip Tree often planted as an ornamental tree is listed in the Global Invasive Species Database as one of “One Hundred of the World’s Worst Invasive Alien Species”. The flowering tree is invasive in Hawaii, Fiji, Guam, Vanuatu, the Cook Islands and Samoa and is a potential invader in several other tropical locations.
