Dendrobium hercoglossum Rchb. f. 1886

09/05/2010

Dendrobium hercoglossum Rchb. f. 1886 is, as compared with other Dendrobium orchids, a small flowered (2,5 cm), epiphytic growing orchid species, native to Indochina and South East Asia.

Dendrobium hercoglossum orchids are found in varieties of different tones, from intense violet to pastel violet and there are also albino plants (Dendrobium hercoglossum var. alba), with pure white flowers. Flowers are slightly fragrant. Flowering period: February - May. Dendrobium hercoglossum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires cool to warm temperatures and medium bright light. Plants should be kept moist, but not wet, during the growth season. Waterings should be restricted during the winter rest.
