07/06/2010

Geodorum pulchellum Ridl. 1908, commonly called the beautiful Geodorum, is a terrestrial growing (ground orchid) orchid species, native to China, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

In our home country Thailand this beautiful, small Geodorum orchid is called Wan Chung Nang Ngarm The highly fragrant flowers, with a sweet scence, reach a size of about 2 - 2,5 cm in diameter and open not well. Flowering period: May - June. Geodorum pulchellum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical ground orchid requires warm - hot temperature, a location in partial shade to full shade and should be kept humid, but not wet. Plants should be cultivated in a well-drained potting medium to avoid waterlogging, which may cause root rot.
