Dendrochilum cobbianum Rchb. f. 1880

27/03/2013

Dendrochilum cobbianum Rchb. f. 1880 is an epiphytic, occasionally lithophytic growing orchid species, native to the Philippines.

Inflorescences of the small sized orchid reach lengths up to about 50 cm and carry a multitude of flowers, which are quite big for the Dendrochilum orchid genus. The fragrant flowers, with a scent of new-mown hay, get a size of up to 1,8 cm in diameter. Flowering period: Winter - Spring. Dendrochilum cobbianum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid is best cultivated in a hanging basket and requires cool to warm temperatures and medium to bright light. Dendrochilum cobbianum plants should dry out between waterings and waterings should be restricted during the winter rest. The fast-growing tropical orchid is considered as easy to care and under good conditions the plant will double its size every year.
