One of the most liked and traded orchids in the world are Vanda orchids,
but most of the traded plants are hybrids.
Rarely we can find a real Vanda species like the Vanda liouvillei Finet 1912.
The Vanda liouvillei has been first described
by the french botanist Achille Eugène Finet (1862-1913).
This epiphytic growing orchid beauty is native to Thailand, Burma (Myanmar) and Laos.
The inflorescences can reach a length up to 50 cm
and get about 10 – 15 long-lasting flowers, which are slightly fragrant.
The faint smell reminds of musk.
The colour of the flowers varies from yellow with red-brown spots
to a dark brown-red with just a very few spots.
The lip is often fish-tail shaped.
Flower size: about 2 cm
Flowering period: February – April
