Bulbophyllum dearei Rchb. f. 1888

16/06/2010

Bulbophyllum dearei Rchb. f. 1888 is an epiphytic, occasionally also lithophytic on limestone growing orchid species, found in Indonesia (Borneo), Malaysia,
the Philippines and New Guinea.

The beautiful, yellow flowers reach a size about 7 - 8 cm and are slightly fragrant. Flowering period: Summer - Autumn. Bulbophyllum dearei orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid species requires an intermediate – hot, humid climate and a shady location. Plants should be kept humid, but not wet and need a good air circulation to avoid fungal infections. During the growth season the potting medium shouldn`t be allowed to dry out completely, whilst during the winter rest waterings should be restricted.
